With these unseasonably warmer than average temperatures, it’s hard to believe that the DSE Mobile Technology Trailer Programs have officially ended for the season! In just 14 short weeks this fall, 1580 students in 62 classes received programs ranging from Pond Ecosystem Investigation to Woodland Soil Study to Wetland Chemical Water Quality Assessment. Zebra mussels are very prolific breeders, with adult females producing anywhere from 30,000 to 1.6 million eggs per year. The zebra mussel is a filter feeder, with each adult capable of clearing the algae from a quart of water each day. A thousand zebra mussels can thus filter 250 gallons of water each day.
