CEES at Bug Fest

Friend of CEES, Jan Lesniak, has volunteered to host a station at this year’s annual Bug Fest focusing on bat education and conservation. Bug Fest is a self-described celebration of bugs taking place at Southeastway Park on August 30 from 1 – 5 p.m.  CEES is happy to help in this endeavor! We have collaborated with Jan to develop educational activities that are fun and rewarding for young and old.

You can find out more about Bug Fest on their Facebook event page here!

As visitors move throughout the event, different stations will educate and demonstrate various aspects of bugs and their lifecycles. After completion of several stations, participants will be eligible for an honorary ‘Degree of Bugology.’ They will be able to catch, touch and visit with several kinds of insects.

At the bat station, students can expect a variety of fun activities. We will have posters, games and a reading circle. Kids will have the chance to hunt for bugs as a bat, make a bat craft, learn about bat form, function and benefits, and talk to ISU bat researchers. We will also distribute information and valuable resources that can help average citizens with bat conservation.  Helping bats helps support the whole ecosystem.

We especially want to thank our friends at ISU and GENI for helping with educational resources and great ideas. We hope everyone can make it out and have a great family fun day at Bug Fest 2015!!
