July was a busy month at the Center. Interest in the School Branch National Water Quality Initiative watershed continues to grow, and we were finalizing plans for instrumentation at the Starkey Farms Edge of Field sites, and working through the logistics of watershed sampling.

IUPUI partnership improves health goals on Indy's Near Eastside

"Between spring 2011 and fall 2013, 80 students and 13 faculty members from 12 IUPUI degree-granting schools worked with 11 local nonprofits to accomplish 17 neighborhood research, technical assistance and internship projects -- all planned in collaboration with Near Eastside community members."

Service Learning at Sodalis Nature Park April 5, 2014

Sodalis Nature Park has been dedicated to the protection of the Indiana bat otherwise known as Myotis sodalis. Service learning crews were asked to help clear the bat’s habitat of the invasive amur bush honeysuckle. The heaviest concentrations were in the floodplain areas.

Emergence was the topic of the day. After such a long and grueling winter, spring was finally upon us and its signs were everywhere. There was not a lot of green in the woods, but the amor bush honeysuckle’s buds were just beginning to swell making them a slight more visible than their native neighbors. Several small snakes were sighted by our crew and hikers.

            The Center for Earth and Environmental Science is pleased to anounce that the Center's Mobile Technology Trailer is currenly being upgraded with plans to begin programing once again this spring.  This upgrade will allow the Center to continue to provide quality educational programming with new computers and Google tablets as seen in the pictue.
