Water Quality
Research and Development Partnership between the IUPUI Center for
Earth and Environmental Science and USFilter Indianapolis Water LLC.
Water Quality Research and Development Partnership Major Watersheds
of Indianapolis Water Reservoirs Includes: • Creating a Node of
Drinking Water Research Excellence in Central Indiana • Developing
and Utilizing Cutting Edge Research to Address Water Quality Issues
in Indianapolis and Globally • Training Graduate Students for Work
in the High-Technology Sector • Expanding and Enhancing
Environmental Research and Education Programs at IUPUI Program Will
Focus on the Following Topics: • Evaluating the major sources of
nutrients in the reservoirs, including nutrient availability from
sediments and watershed approaches to minimize inputs • Determining
specific conditions that trigger algal blooms in the reservoirs •
Performing detailed research focused at Eagle Creek Reservoir to
understand biogeochemical cycling and complete system dynamics
Current Research Programs Include: • Water Quality and Nutrient
Cycling in Three Central Indiana Watersheds and Their Reservoirs:
Eagle Creek/Eagle Creek Reservoir, Fall Creek/Geist Reservoir and
Cicero Creek/Morse Reservoir • Sedimentologic and Biogeochemical
Characterization of the Eagle Creek Watershed: Implications for
Nutrient Cycling and Water Quality “Ideally water quality monitoring
programs produce long-term data sets compiled over multiple years to
capture the natural, seasonal and year-to-year variations in
biological communities and water body constituent concentrations” –
