April 19 Work Day Description: The spring 2008 service learning work day will consist of removing invasive exotic plant species and litter cleanup with the Central Indiana Land Trust (CILTI) at this nature preserve in Fishers, IN. This project will assist CILTI with the ecological restoration of the site. Planned restoration activities include planting 33 acres with 16,000 tree seedlings and installing prairie grasses and forbs interspersed among 5, 1-acre clusters of trees within another 37 acres. The remaining 7 acres is the existing floodplain forest that will remain intact and be managed for invasive exotic plant species. Meeting Location: The linked driving directions above navigate you to Riverside Intermediate School in Fishers. We will park behind the school on the northern end of the lot. CILTI and CEES staff will meet you at the parking location. Participants must wear clothes appropriate for outdoor field work. Long pants and closed toe shoes are required. Lunch, water, gloves, and equipment will be provided.
