Burr Oak Bend Background Information Provided by CILTI The Burr Oak Bend property is located on the west side of the White River in Hamilton County, just south of the 206th Street Bridge. In July 2002 CILTI acquired the first 52.3 acre parcel of agricultural land in the floodplain of the White River. This site, formerly owned by Deerfield Estates, was purchased using Guide Settlement funds that were designated for restoration of the White River following the fish kill of 1999. In 2004, CILTI acquired an additional 68.3 acres of land in 3 different tracts and in 2006 added another 8 acres to bring the total acreage to 128. Currently, CILTI is in the process of restoring the site to a mixed hardwood forest with associated prairie and wetland ecosystems. The goal is to improve in-stream aquatic habitats and water quality, and to provide a critical forested riparian corridor for terrestrial species.
