Education Outreach

CEES is transforming the way science is experienced through discovery-based education.  CEES’ comprehensive and truly unique science education program capitalizes on a wealth of university resources, including cutting-edge research, technology and faculty expertise to provide real, hands-on environmental science experiences for students of all ages.  Students learn on-site at CEES research locations within central Indiana, assisting university researchers with on-going experiments and data collection.  Programs are available at the elementary to continuing education level.  Service learning partnerships, teacher education professional workshops, classroom demonstrations, interactive distance education programs, and field programs are at the core of CEES’ educational outreach program.  In addition, CEES faculty and staff create environmental and natural resource educational materials that include curricula, CD-ROMs, multimedia maps, and Internet web resources.

Our educational outreach program partners include:

  • Central Indiana Educational Service Center
  • The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis
  • Eli Lilly and Company
  • Indiana Historical Society
  • Indiana State Museum
  • IndyParks and Greenways
  • Geography Educators Network of Indiana
  • Hook’s Discovery and Learning Center

  • National Science Foundation
  • University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum Earth Partnership for Schools
  • Veolia Water
  • Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust
  • Lilly
  • Dow Agro Sciences
  • Duke Energy

CEES educational programs are based at CEES’ research sites and are customized for individual requests, age groups, and purpose.  Program components vary and expose students to a wide array of applied environmental science topics that include water quality monitoring and analysis, ecosystem studies, environmental restoration techniques, and technology applications.

Contact the Center for Earth and Environmental Science if you would like to discuss outreach program development for your group.

There are some who can live without wild things, and some who cannot.
